I’m a former soldier with more than six years experience as a public affairs specialist/ military journalist for the U.S. Army. My first job in the military was working as a staff writer for the Fort Drum Blizzard (now The Mountaineer) in chilly Fort Drum, N.Y.
In 2005 I was assigned to Fort Lewis, Wash., and I deployed to Iraq in 2006-2007. I spent almost a year in Iraq embedding with infantry troops and other Army units during combat operations. My stories and photos have been published widely online as well as military news outlets. My photos have appeared in news sites like TIME/CNN online, MSNBC.com, the Guardian (UK),The Seattle Times and the Tacoma Tribune. You can view my military work in my portfolio.
I got out of the Army in 2008 to pursue my degree. I graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University in December 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. My degree concentration was in Journalism and I minored in International/Comparative Studies. I worked as the Crime Beat writer for the university newspaper the Broadside and also contributed to the student news website connect2mason.com.
